As parents we long to give our kids the books that open new vistas for them intellectually. "The Martian" was that book for my son, who cried out in disappointment when he came to the last page as his excellent experience had ended.

Now the kid is back to watching TV, but the hope remains that he will soon be again captivated by a reading adventure.
