Portdaddia Does The Rose Festival!

"Celebrating Bridgetown one bridge at a time." Burnside Bridge can be see in the background.

Navy and Coast Guard ships come up the Columbia and then Willamette rivers to dock at the festival for a Fleet Week. The big war machine out of view behind the cement baricades was the USS Bunker Hill,  a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser of the United States Navy.

Despite the protestors, the Navy was doing well with recruitment as well as tours of the Bunker Hill. Several hundred people were waiting in line for a tour when we passed by.

Some may find the protesters off-putting, but this is just part of the folksy charm of these parts. The kid took more interest in the protesters than he did in the ship.

I felt the food choices were lacking. Then I ordered mac and cheese with pulled pork and found it tasted pretty good.

A nice day out.
